Things to do in Butterfly Garden
Although the domes at the center of the butterfly park are the stars of the show, there are also other advantages that make any visit to the Butterfly Garden enjoyable, especially for families with children. Here's a general list of Butterfly Garden attractions in Dubai.
Visit the domes
Curtains of pearls mark the entrance to the domes, which are kept at a comfortable temperature of 24°C and overflowing with flowers and plants. Each path is lined with foliage, while ivy hanging from the ceiling completes the natural look.
Go a step further and prepare to be greeted by a frenzy of butterflies chasing each other around the domeperched on feeding stations.
For a more immersive experience, I recommend that you sit in the mesh pavilions located in each dome and let the butterflies come to you. It's a great way to observe rare butterfly species.
The butterfly museum
The first room of the inner garden is the Butterfly Museum, featuring handcrafted artworks and paintings made from thousands of butterflies collected from all over the world. One remarkable piece is a mural of the Crown Prince of Dubai.
Koi carp pond
Located in the second dome, the Koi carp pond is hard to miss. Filled with a multitude of Koi carp of different sizes, the pond is an ideal place to take photos. The sound of the water provides a calming effect amid the cacophony of bird sounds in the indoor area.
Visit the educational area with your family
Visitors can witness the butterflies' actual life cycle, from pupal stage to adulthood, and better understand their metamorphosis. To make the most of their visit, the Butterfly Garden also gives visitors the chance to learn more about different butterfly species.
Notable butterfly types to spot include the White Angled-Sulphur, Monarch, Red Rim, African Queen, Tailed Jay, Doris, Great Gold Eggfly, Orange Oakleaf, Owl Butterfly, Clipper and Golden Birdwing to name but a few. In addition to the educational experience, a cinema offers a wide selection of animations, videos on the life cycle of butterflies and films for young visitors.
Dining at Dubai's Butterfly Garden
All these visits quickly work up an appetite. Fortunately, a visit to the various kiosks is enough to satisfy your cravings. Other food and beverage outlets include a Starbucks café and a candy store. Serving a variety of coffees, fresh fruit, juices, ice creams and candies, these food outlets ensure that families never have to cut their visit short to eat.
Other facilities of note include a parking area, prayer room, gift stores, wheelchair access facilities, toilets, a first-aid room and even a car rental service.
A few rules to follow at Dubai's Butterfly Garden
Like other leisure facilities in the United Arab Emirates, the Butterfly Garden has introduced rules.
It is strictly forbidden to bring food and drink into the garden. They can attract predatory insects that can harm butterflies. Please also bear in mind that the management is not responsible for lost personal belongings. I advise you to watch your steps when walking around the domes to avoid stepping on the butterflies.
You should avoid disturbing the butterflies and not try to catch them. Visitors should avoid touching a butterfly's wing or any other area that could render them unable to fly.
By respecting these rules, you'll spend a magical moment with your family, surrounded by dozens of butterflies.
