Desert Safari

Everyone knows that the world's tallest building is in Dubai. But right at the foot of the Burj Khalifa is the Burj Lake and the world's tallest fountain: the Dubai Fountain. It's also the world's largest choreographed fountain.

The fountain can pull 83,000 liters of water over 140 metres high. It's almost as tall as a 50-storey building. The creators of the Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas were behind the design of the Dubai fountain.

Dubai tip: the Dubai Garden Glow

located next to Sheikh Zayed Road inside Zabeel Park, this garden is divided into themes: Glow Park, Dinosaur Park, Ice Park and Art Park. Each offers a different atmosphere.

Dubai Garden Glow is the world's largest illuminated park. The garden looks like any other garden during the day, with sculptures of dinosaurs and other characters, but after sunset the place transforms into a fairytale setting.

Glow Park features models of wild animals and trees, reflecting the importance of protecting the environment. These art forms glow after dark, exuding an otherworldly aura.

The park is primarily designed for children. They'll love the garden's interactive features, such as Dinosaur Lab, which presents the lives of these prehistoric creatures.

The house of Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum

Saeed bin Maktoum bin Hasher Al Maktoum House is one of Dubai's oldest buildings and the home of the emirate's former ruler, the grandfather of Dubai's current ruler. Built in 1896, it was the seat of government when Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum resided there.

He died in 1958, leaving behind a great legacy that bears witness to the evolution of Dubai as an emirate and the United Arab Emirates as a country.

Today, the historic residence is transformed into a museum housing iconic old photographs, coins, stamps and documents that preserve the country's short, but great, history.

The structure is made of coral stone and mud, as were all buildings in the region at the time. The typical Arab courtyard has a unique charm.

Dubai tip: take a trip to the Gold Souk 

The famous gold souk of Dubai has earned the city the name "City of Gold". Gold Souk is located in Deira, near Baniyas Square. The gold market has been a major attraction for years, bringing tourists from all over the world to buy gold, diamonds and jewelry at low prices.

You should visit the souk even if you don't plan to buy anything. Stroll through its alleys in the glow of gold.

Gold prices in the Gold Souk are among the lowest in the world. One of the souk's jewelers houses the world's largest gold ring: the Najmat Taiba. Weighing 64 kg, it stands behind glass so that tourists can take photos.

In addition to gold, you'll find silver, precious and semi-precious stones and breathtakingly beautiful jewelry.

Dubai's artificial beach: the 4×4 Beach

4×4 Beach is a secluded spot where you can have a wonderful picnic with the family. There are no restaurants or toilets on site. So I advise you to take all necessary precautions before relaxing here. The great advantage of this beach is thatit's free.

This immense stretch of sand stretches from the road to the shore, and the arches in the bay offer a magnificent view. Look to the left and you'll even see the Burj Al Arab in the distance.

Reachable by car, this beach is located between Al Athar Road and Jumeirah Beach Road.

Al Mamzar Park

Pearly sands and clear blue waters are just some of the features at the Dubai-Sharjah border. It's a trip I particularly recommend if you want to enjoy the beauty of the area. Once you arrive, you'll find not one, but four beaches, wide open spaces, bike paths, a swimming pool, multiple barbecue areas and a skate park.

There are also a multitude of cafés and kiosks. to stock up on essentials for the day. The main water activity here is snorkeling.

The place is open:

  • from Sunday to Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • From Thursday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Finally, there's a 5 dirham entrance fee.

Dubai's artificial beach: Al Sufouh beach

This beautiful beach with many names is a favorite among Dubai residents. It's the place to be when you want to escape the crowds and feel like you've stepped off the beaten track, but want to do so without sacrificing the view of the Burj Al Arab. This secret beach has no restaurants or mini-markets for shopping. I therefore recommendtake a bottle of water with you to avoid dehydration.

To get here, all you have to do is turn right after the bus stop on Al Sufouh Road, about 500 m from Dubai Media City.

La Mer

If sparkling blue seas, white sands, palm-fringed paths, quaint beach huts, street art and twinkling strings of lights appeal to you, I suggest you visit La Mer.

This destination is perfect for shopping and dining. This trendy coastal spot is home to fast food restaurants, ice cream trucks, upscale eateries, a retro cinema, an inflatable playground and a water park. The place perfect for relaxing in Dubai.

Dubai's Sunset Beach

This wide stretch of white sand is often deserted early in the morning. It's an ideal place for a stroll before work. Here, you can enjoy the calm that pervades the area. Passionate surfers often cite Sunset Beach as a favorite spot. Many local fishermen also come to enjoy some interesting spots.

Families are also very welcome. On site, a children's playground and several barbecue areas. There's even an ephemeral library and free Wi-Fi. I advise you to stay until sunset. Indeed, if that name was chosen for this beach, it's not for nothing!

FIVE Palm Jumeirah

The 150-metre beach is also very attractive, with sun loungers, luxury deckchairs, cabanas and even Jacuzzis. There's also a whole range of signature drinks to sip while soaking up the sun. On-site restaurant offers a menu of Mediterranean-style amuse-bouches.

The Dubai Metro is divided into 3 different sections: Gold, Women & children and Ordinary. There are different ticket prices depending on your section.

As far as buses are concerned, you'll be pleased to know that all are air-conditioned to make getting around easier! In Dubai, bus stops are also air-conditioned ! These same bus stops are equipped with screens and connected to the Internet, giving you real-time traffic updates.

Living in Dubai: how much are taxes in Dubai?

You'll be happy to know thatthere is no income tax generated in the country. This means you receive your full salary, without any deductions. In 2018, the United Arab Emirates introduced VAT of 5 % on goods and services. The United Arab Emirates has double tax treaties with over 130 countries, so you'll need to check whether you'll have to pay income tax in your country of residence according to local tax laws.
