Who can obtain a driver's license in Dubai?

Anyone aged 18 and over can apply for a driver's license in Dubai. People aged between 18 and 21 are entitled to a probationary licence.

An application for a driver's license must be submitted in Arabic to the RTA (Road and Traffic Authority). Approved driving schools in Dubai will take care of this for you. On the basis of this application, the RTA issues a temporary license, which must be worn at all times during training.

What is the procedure for applying for a driver's license in Dubai?

The Dubai driver's license process is simple, but rigorous. To succeed, you need to follow certain important steps.

• Take your eye exam. You can have it done at your driving school or optician's.
• Register with an RTA-approved driving school in Dubai and submit all the necessary documents
• Complete all theory courses online or at driving schools
• Passing the theory test to move on to practical training
• Complete practical courses and pass your internal assessment
• At the end of the internal assessment, you must take driving lessons
• Pass the parking test for the school to apply for the RTA test
• Pass the final RTA road test.

Finally, all you have to do is get your license.

What documents are required for a driver's license in Dubai?

If you are a foreigner living in Dubai, you must present :

• Your Emirates identity card
• Your passport with visa page

What is included in the driving test?

There are no shortcuts to obtaining a driver's license in Dubai. You must pass all tests to obtain a valid driver's license.

Your driving school registers you for the theory test. Once you've passed all the internal tests, especially the parking test, you can move on to the RTA tests. You cannot attempt the RTA road test only if you pass the RTA theory test.

Theoretical test in detail

The test consists of 35 questions to test your knowledge of road hazards, road signs and safe driving instructions.

There will be three segments. The first segment contains 17 questions on various traffic situations. You must answer at least 11 questions correctly to pass this segment. The second segment includes 18 questions focusing on the specifics of the driving test. You must answer 12 of these questions correctly to qualify for the final road test.

The third segment, the Risk Recognition Test, is a series of videos illustrating different environmental conditions. The questions in this segment focus on your logic for dealing with these conditions and their risks.

This test is performed on a touch-screen computer. in English or Arabic. Candidates who do not master these languages can opt for an oral exam.

Carry out parking tests

A test with detailed parking instructions takes place in the courtyard of your driving school. There are five stages in the parking test.

• Parking sloping
• Parking in ears (60 degrees)
• Parking at 90 degrees
• Parking in parallel

If you fail the parking test five times in a row, you will have to represent you at the internal assessment.

Road test and evaluation

This is the last and perhaps most difficult step in your journey to obtain a driver's license in Dubai. But why? Because it's here that you prove to the examiner that you're worthy of that driver's license, and that you're a good driver. you only have 10 to 12 minutes to do it!
