Gold Souk Dubai: article summary
Gold Souk Dubai, the traditional gold market
Dubai's Gold Souk is a traditional market - a souk - specialized in the sale of gold jewelry. It is located Deiraone of the city's oldest districts, home to the most important souks of Dubai.
But the most famous is undoubtedly this one! At the heart of this gold marketIn the "Jewelry" section, some 380 retailers offer jewelry ranging from the simplest bracelets or necklaces to complete sets worthy of a Saudi princess.
And it's not all gold, either, as we also come across creations adorned with diamonds and other precious stonesthat will make your eyes sparkle!
The stalls are arranged along long, covered aisles and the jewelry is displayed in full view, unprotected, reminding us that Dubai is a very secure city.
Stroll from stall to stall, whether you're looking to buy pretty jewelry or simply to enjoy the viewin a friendly atmosphere. You don't have to be a Gold fanatic to enjoy this visit, which I think is a must!
What is gold worth in Dubai's Gold Souk?
In this market, the jewelry on display would represent between 15 and 25 tonnes of Gold ! But is it a sign of quality?
Yes, because the gold used to make the products you will find in the Dubai souk is controlled by local government. A framework that keeps quality high and avoids potential scams.
Only Gold to be found 18 to 24 carats in this souk, with creations containing a minimum of 75 % of Gold. Obviously, prices are affected by this, but given the diversity of the jewels on sale, the sometimes surprising shapes, the variety of colors - red, green, blue - and the superb stones that set some of the sets, you might just fall in love and buy. treat yourself !
The world's largest gold jewel
This Souk is also where you'll find the world's largest gold jewelIt's a ring weighing 64 kilos of 21-carat gold, with 5 kilos of diamonds and 615 Swarovski crystals.
When it was manufactured in 2000, it was worth around 540,000 euros. But with inflation, this colossal (and importable!) jewel now costs a whopping 3 million euros !
If you can't afford it, you can at least take a look at it if it's on display during your visit to Dubai !
How to buy in Dubai's Gold Souk?
A souk is all about doing business, and Dubai's Gold Souk is no exception. However, there are some recommendations for a worry-free shopping experience.
How to negotiate in the souk
Negotiation is an integral part of the experience and is expected every time. The prices initially proposed are often swollen and you'll have to play along to bring it down.
Bear in mind that you need to be patient, not hesitate to use the competition and above all, never raise your voice. Set the price you want to pay for the jewel in advance, and try to get as close to it as possible.
On the whole, there are no sensational bargains to be had at Dubai's Gold Souk, but prices remain competitive. very correct... if you negotiate well!
Where to buy jewelry at the best price?
The largest boutiques are generally the least attractive in terms of price, since they enjoy a constant influx of visitors.
Dig a little, and you'll find smaller stalls with less choice, of course, but with sellers who are more available and more likely to drive prices down.
Good to know jewelry prices depend on the current gold rate and it's a good idea to get to know it before you visit!
Watch out for spoilers!
A visit to Dubai's Gold Souk is rather peaceful, with one exception: reelers. Many people will try to sell you inferior products, ranging from jewelry to leather bags or djellabas. Avoid them whenever possible, and be firm in your refusals.
