What to do in Hatta
Looking for a thrill? Go mountain biking on dedicated trails that cater for all levels. Along the way, you can connect with nature through farmlandnatural pools and rocky hills. You may even discover hidden oases.
Swap your wheels for something a little more offbeat at Hatta Wadi Hub. This activity center is full of surprises, including the first and only open-air zorbing track in the Middle East. You'll soon find yourself rolling around in a giant transparent ball.
If zorbing isn't your cup of tea, go for a bit of axe throwing. You can also try your hand at the climbing wall or enjoy the waterslide at Hatta Drop-In. There are also sunrise and sunset yoga sessions, paragliding and many other thrills to try out.
Then slow down the pace by kayaking along the turquoise waters of the damA popular attraction in the cooler winter months. Many people pack a picnic lunch when they visit the dam, but remember to leave the site as you found it.
What can you see?
In addition to its magnificent natural landscape, Hatta is one of the oldest preserved areas in the United Arab Emirates. Start your journey with a scenic drive into town. You'll be welcomed by the Hatta Fort Hotel, then turn into the central village and cross to to reach the dam's viewpoint. Park your car and take a short hike to see a magnificent blue lake.
On your return, you can visit the Heritage Village, which showcases life in ancient times and houses the Hatta fort. Here, you'll see restored houses and huts discover the history of the first inhabitants.
A short drive from Heritage Village is Hatta Hill Park, a vast, lush area often used for picnics and barbecues.
Climb up to the tower for a fantastic view of the region. You can also visit the nearby library to learn more about the emirate's history and people.
What can you eat on site?
Fill up on local cuisine, food trucks and barbecues while enjoying the beauty of the city. For example, the Tanoor restaurant on Dubai Hatta Road offers traditional Arabic cuisine with a tasty menu of chicken, lamb and camel dishes. Hatta Wild Cafe offers fresh coffee, sandwiches and more inside Hatta Wadi Hub.
The Al Hajarian restaurant at Hatta Heritage Village offers a peaceful setting in the historic Shari'a district. The restaurant serves authentic Emirati cuisine prepared with fresh local ingredients.
It's a great way to discover the culture of Hatta. Coffee connoisseurs, meanwhile, should head straight to the lakeside and have a brew at the Alberi café. The food truck offers a variety of dishes and drinks to be enjoyed in the shade of the trees.
Hatta: where to sleep?
The site is perfect for a day trip. However, if you want to enjoy this natural landscape a little longer, book a stay at the Hatta Fort Hotel.
The four-star resort, which has been welcoming guests for over three decades, offers rooms with spectacular views. Guests can also take advantage of the resort's swimming pools, park and a multitude of outdoor activities.
If you're looking for a little luxury in nature, then there are 12 fabulous vacation homes to visit in Hatta, ranging from modern villas with private pools at rustic farmhouses with barbecues and karaoke facilities.
For those with the right equipment, there are several campsites, including some recently built near the Hatta Mountain Bike Trail Center. You'll find cabins, barbecues, shower blocks and toilets.
How to get to Hatta
It takes around 90 minutes to reach the site by road from downtown Dubai. The best route is from E102 (Sharjah-Kalba Road) via E611 (Emirates Road).
The scenic journey is an experience in itself, with the surrounding terrain from golden sand to deep red mountains.
The Hatta region is a wonderful place to visit. I advise you to get out there and enjoy the sights and sounds. recharge your batteries in a peaceful setting.
